Not my own bundle, I picked up some stems from a local swap. Most of the cut ends went mushy and brown within a few days of planting. Tops look fine so far. Should I re-trim above the rot or just toss the worst ones? Pic below of the tank.
Quick update from the split. Tub A (19) is picking at wafer harder and a couple look visibly fatter than the B group. Both tubs tested zero ammonia this morning like finandfry said. Pic below of the shelf. Is a size difference this early normal or should I be moving the big ones out?
Took the advice from the thread and cut the upper half down to about a centimeter, pic below of the wall now. Cut tips are already showing little side branches and the bare gaps are looking less obvious. Lower half I left alone as a control. Will post again in two weeks.
Still 37, all pink and picking at zucchini and crushed wafer now. The tub is getting a little crowded for the size of it, though water stays clear with the daily small change. Pic below of the shelf setup. Is it too early to split them into two tubs, or do I wait until they are a couple weeks old?
Pic below of my iwagumi. The carpet filled in the front third quickly and then just stalled. Light is the same across the tank, root tabs went in three weeks ago, CO2 is steady. Is this normal and I just need patience, or should I trim it down to push runners?
Promised a day 3 update so here it is. Colors are noticeably darker and the turquoise lines are sharper than when they were on sand with bright glare. Nobody is hiding anymore and they all hit the beefheart at the front glass. Still doing 50 percent each evening. Only oddity is one fish keeps flashing against the elbow, going to watch it a couple more days before I think about anything.
Dipped a pack of new zoas Friday night and they have been mostly shut since. Today is Sunday and about half the polyps are still pulled in, the rest are puffy but not fully open. Pic below of the frag rack right now. Flow is moderate and the light is the same as where they grew. I know it can take a few days but at what point do you start thinking something is wrong?
Mesh wall on the back of my 20 long has been going about six weeks and it's still patchy in the lower half. Pic below of where it is now. Light is moderate, no CO2, I dose a little all-in-one weekly. Is this just a patience thing or should I be tying more moss on in the gaps? Never tried a wall this size so no idea what normal looks like.
Thinking of bidding on finandfry's black lace pair. I have a 40 breeder with a single piece of slate leaning on the glass. Is one piece enough for a proven pair or do they fight over spots? Also the tank has a couple of adult cories in it, would that be a problem during a spawn?
Got the juvies up out of the outside tubs a day early because the forecast dropped. They are in the indoor tub with the hyacinth roots and the seeded sponge, floated the bags for twenty minutes first. Pic below of the tub. Anything I should watch for in the first couple days besides ammonia?
Most of the 37 are off the cave floor now and doing laps, yolk sacs are tiny. Tried a pinch of crushed spirulina wafer in a drop of tank water this evening and a few of them went straight for it. Pic below of the tub. Going to pipette out whatever is left in an hour like shrimplord said. Still 37, no more pale ones.
Did the first big change tonight after wrapping the back glass in black and adding two pvc elbows and floaters like finandfry suggested. Pic below of how it looks. They hung at the surface for about twenty minutes and then came to the front glass for food, so far no hiding. Will update in a couple days.
Hung a few pothos cuttings with the roots in the back of my hang-on-back filter about two months ago. Pic below of how it looks now, roots are long and white. Nitrate in the 40 gallon went from around 25 to 10 and it hasn't crept back. Cheap fix, wondering if anyone has had problems with the roots clogging the intake.
setting up an indoor tub for the guppy juvies I'm bringing in from outside this weekend. Pic below of the tub as it sits. I have water hyacinth roots and a sponge filter I can seed from my shrimp tank. Is a day of running enough or should I wait for it to settle a bit longer before moving fish in?
One of the bristlenose babies let go of the clump and is doing laps around the tub. Yolk sac is about half gone. Still 37 total, all pink. Is it too early to try a tiny bit of spirulina or do I wait until they're all up off the floor? pic below of the tub.
