Low tech tank, how often do you actually trim stems?
My rotala in the 20 gallon is getting leggy at the top and I keep putting off the trim. Low tech, moderate light, no CO2. Do you cut and replant tops every two weeks or wait until it hits the surface? Mine seem to grow slower after each trim and I wonder if I'm doing it too often.

Wait until it's a few inches past where you want it, then cut and replant the tops. Trimming too often in low tech does slow them down.
Same experience. I go about every three weeks and leave the bottom stumps, they usually branch out.
Leaving the stumps is the trick, I get the same branching with stem plants in my betta tubs. Cutting every two weeks really does seem to stall them.
ok that settles it, I'll let it run another two weeks and trim from the top then. thanks all.
