Moved my discus tank to a bare bottom, anyone regret it?
Thinking about going bare bottom on my grow-out tank so I can do big daily changes without hunting for waste. I keep sand in my display and the juveniles just seem to grow slower when I skimp on changes. Anyone who switched, do the fish look stressed with no substrate or do they not care?

Not discus but my angel grow-out is bare and they never cared. A few floating plants for cover and they settle in a day or two.
Same, bare is the standard for grow-outs here. Add a sponge filter and a pvc elbow or two and the juveniles feel covered. Just watch for them being skittish with the bright glare off the bottom.
Another vote for bare on grow-outs. Do the glare skittishness fixes work with a dark background taped on the sides too? Thinking of doing that with my guppy juvies.
Good point on glare, I'll wrap the bottom half of the back glass in black and add a couple pvc elbows plus floaters. Doing the first big change tonight and I'll report back on how they act.
Dark background helps a lot, especially on the back and sides. Leave the front clear so you can watch them and they get used to you walking up.
Report back is a good idea. Mine got a bit skittish the first two days of bare bottom then totally forgot about it.
