Black lace pair auction, how much slate do you actually need?
Thinking of bidding on finandfry's black lace pair. I have a 40 breeder with a single piece of slate leaning on the glass. Is one piece enough for a proven pair or do they fight over spots? Also the tank has a couple of adult cories in it, would that be a problem during a spawn?

One slate is fine for a pair, they pick one and ignore the rest. Corys on the bottom usually don't bother them but they will snack on any eggs that get left, so the pair guarding is what keeps it safe.
my cories always wander right under the slate at night, would you pull them before a spawn?
I wouldn't pull them, moving fish around right before a spawn stresses the pair more than a few cories do. If you see the cories going for eggs after the first night, take them out then.
that's what I wanted to hear, pulling fish out of a 40 breeder is a pain. I'll add a second slate anyway just in case.
second slate is smart. i'd tilt it at a different angle from the first so they have a clear choice, pairs seem to like picking their own spot.
