Splitting now is fine and honestly easier than waiting. Just match the water and temp exactly so it's not another stress on top of the yolk sac stage ending. Two tubs of 18 grow faster than one crowded one.

Agree, and keep the second tub seeded with a bit of sponge squeezings if you can. Nice that you still have all 37.

Seconding the sponge squeezings, and keep the feeding small. Wigglers that are grazing will foul a tub quick if you dump in wafer.

ok that's helpful, so a pinch crushed per tub once a day and pipette what's left? i'll split them tonight and match the temp with a thermometer this time

That feeding plan sounds right. Just don't skip the pipette step, uneaten wafer in a warm tub goes sour fast.

Also label the two tubs so you can tell if one grows faster than the other. Mine always differ a bit even from the same spawn.

good tip on the labels, i do the same with my guppy tubs. a strip of tape and a marker saves a lot of guessing later.

labeled them A and B with masking tape, split 19 and 18. temps matched at 25.5 on the thermometer, everyone still pink and picking at wafer.

Nice clean split. Check each tub's ammonia the first couple mornings, a smaller volume can spike faster than you'd expect.

good point on ammonia, i tested my tubs every morning for the first week and caught a spike on day 2 once. a pinch of pipetted wafer less fixed it.
