Cheap way to tell if an angel pair is about to spawn?
Following the black lace talk, my young pair has been picking at the slate again today and the female's tube looks a bit more blunt than last week. Is the blunt ovipositor a reliable sign or can it still be weeks? I'd rather not move them or touch anything and jinx it, just want to know how long to wait before I put a camera on the tank.

Blunt tube that's visibly dropping usually means eggs within a day or two. Slate being cleaned is the other sign. Keep the room quiet and don't overfeed that day, a stuffed pair tends to fumble.
good tip on not overfeeding that day. i'd also dim the room light a bit and leave the camera for after the first eggs show, new pairs spook easy.
that's reassuring, I'll keep the room dark and just watch from the doorway till the slate has eggs on it. thanks both.
