Neo shrimp berried but dropping eggs every time, is it the TDS swing after water changes?
Got a colony of orange neos in a 10 gallon and every berried female drops her eggs around day 8. TDS sits at 180 and I do a 15 percent change weekly with remineralized RO that reads about 170. Temp is 23C. Nothing aggressive in there except a few ramshorns. Anyone seen this stop after changing how they top off?

riverina 180 vs 170 is not a big swing, so i doubt it's TDS. check ammonia and copper first, and make sure the new water is the same temp. dropped eggs at day 8 is often a stressed first time mom too, give it a couple of cycles.
shrimplord adding to that, i had it happen when i dosed fertilizer near the berried girls. riverina, do you dose anything in there?
mossboss nothing at all, just a sponge filter and some moss. i'll test ammonia tonight and see.
riverina good, zero and zero rules out the usual suspects. also keep the sponge filter flow gentle near the berried girls, strong flow can knock eggs loose.
riverina one more thing, ramshorns are fine but if you've got any fish or a heater inlet near the berried girls that can bump them off too. also check if your top off water is the same temp, a cold top off will make a first timer drop.
brackishbabe top off is room temp RO and it sits maybe 3C cooler than the tank, so that could be it. i'll warm it up in a bucket and see if the next berried girl holds past day 8.
riverina that's worth trying. match within a degree or two and add it slowly, a 3C gap on a small tank is enough for a nervous first timer.
shrimplord will do, bucket warmed to tank temp and dripping it in through airline. if the next berried girl holds past day 8 i'll report back.
riverina one more thing, if the first one still drops at day 8 don't give up on her. a lot of neos only hold the second or third berry once they're a bit older.
riverina warmed top off is the right first move. also keep that 15 percent change slow, a drip over an hour is gentler than dumping it in.
will do, thanks both. dripping over an hour through airline is easy enough, i'll report back on day 8.
riverina good, and don't panic if she drops anyway. a few of those first timers settle by the second berry.
