Christmas moss carpet on a flat rock, how often do you trim before it gets stringy?

Tied a few golf ball portions across a flat slate piece about a month ago and it's thickening nicely, but a few strands are getting long and wispy on the edges. Pic below of the rack where it's growing out. Do you trim on a schedule or only when it starts to look messy? I've been going every two weeks with scissors and it seems fine, curious what others do.

mossboss i trim when the strands get past an inch or so, any longer and the lower layer starts going brown from lack of light. every two weeks sounds about right.

pete same. mossboss, give it a gentle swish with a pipette after cutting so the clippings don't sit on the carpet and rot.

mossboss one more thing, if the slate is in a tank with decent flow the carpet stays tighter. mine got stringy fastest in a still corner.

pete good point, this slate sits near the outflow so it should stay tight. i'll compare to the still corner rack.

mossboss if the slate ever gets a bit of green fuzz on it, a light pipette blast along the base clears it without hurting the moss. mine hates being scrubbed.

riverina good to know, no scrubbing then. i'll just blast it when i trim.
