Female betta keeps flaring at male through the divider
I have a jar setup with a clear divider between a male and a female I'm thinking of pairing eventually. She flares constantly, he mostly ignores her. Is this just normal courtship or should I be looking at something else before I try a spawn? Not rushing, just want to read the signs right.

Flaring is normal early on. What you want to see is her showing vertical bars and head down posture, and him building a nest. If she just flares and he ignores her, wait. Condition both on live food a couple more weeks first.
Agree with inkfin. I'd also keep a lot of cover in the spawn tub for her, the female needs somewhere to bolt to when he gets pushy.
Thanks both, will give it a few more weeks and add extra cover to the tub.
good plan. when you do put them together, keep the divider in until you see her vertical bars and head down, then pull it after lights out so it's calmer.
Late to this one but the head down posture tip is the one that took me longest to read right. Divider pulled after lights out is smart.
