Guppy juvies in a tub with just floaters, do I need a sponge filter running before the fish go in?
setting up an indoor tub for the guppy juvies I'm bringing in from outside this weekend. Pic below of the tub as it sits. I have water hyacinth roots and a sponge filter I can seed from my shrimp tank. Is a day of running enough or should I wait for it to settle a bit longer before moving fish in?

If the sponge has been running in an established shrimp tank it's already seeded, so squeeze it into the tub water and you're mostly fine. Keep feeding light the first week and test ammonia every day or two.
Also float the hyacinth roots in the tub a day or two before the fish go in. They soak up ammonia and the juvies pick at the roots for biofilm.
Good call on the hyacinth. I'd still let the sponge run in the tub a full day before the juvies go in so the water is moving and the roots are already in place.
ok that works, I'll set it all up tonight and move the juvies tomorrow evening. thanks both
