Sword mother plants arrive in a few hours, what do you do with the runners first?
Auction on my swords ends this morning and I'm already thinking about how the winner will deal with a 120 worth of roots. Curious how you all handle runners when you get a big sword: split right away or let it settle a week first? I always wait but I'm never sure it's right.

I let them settle at least a week, plant the whole thing first and only split once new leaves are coming from the crown. Splitting on day one just stacks stress on top of shipping.
same here, I plant the whole thing and wait. one thing, trim any leaves that are yellowed or broken off before it goes in, the plant spends less energy on dead leaves and the water stays cleaner.
yep, old outer leaves go first. the winner will probably get a few yellow ones from the box anyway, that's normal for swords after shipping.
one more thing for the winner, swords shed their old outer leaves for a few weeks after moving even when they're doing fine, so don't panic if the plant looks rough before new crown growth shows up.
yep, that's exactly why I tell people to wait. rough for two weeks then a flush of new leaves.
