pete glassy holes on old leaves usually means potassium, not nitrogen. sword is a heavy root feeder though so a tab under it wouldn't hurt, just don't bury it against the crown.

agree on potassium, i'd dose a little K before touching the tabs. mine did the same after i stopped fertilizing for a month.

pete if you do add a tab, push it in a couple inches off the crown like moss said. and i'd dose the K first, glassy edges on old leaves are classic for it.

pete if the K dose doesn't help in a week or so, post another pic of the new leaves. sword holes plus pale new growth would point at iron instead.

pete one more thing, sword roots are sensitive to a sudden nutrient jump so go easy on the first K dose and build up. glassy edges on old leaves is usually slow to fix anyway, the new growth is what tells you if it worked.

good point on easing in, pete. a half dose of K every couple days is probably safer than one big shot on a plant that's already stressed.

will do, starting with a pinch tonight and watching the new leaves. thanks everyone, this thread was more useful than the forum guides i was reading.
