Zoas closed up all day after the rack move, how long do you wait before worrying
Follow up on the plug spacing thread. The two touching plugs are still shut tight at lights on, the rest of the rack is open and fine. Nothing is melting, no slime. I moved the touching ones about two fingers apart tonight. How many days of closed do you give a frag before you start dipping again or moving it?

cass if nothing is melting i'd give it 3 or 4 days, closed with no slime is usually just stress from the move. i'd hold off on another dip unless you see something actually crawling on it.
I'd check flow too. a new rack spot with a dead corner can keep zoas shut longer than the neighbor sting does.
reefwitch good call, the spot where they sat now is the back corner of the rack and the flow does drop off there. i'll swap a loose plug in that corner tomorrow and see if it opens up.
cass swapping a loose plug into the corner is a smart test. if it opens up there in a day or two you know it was flow and not the neighbor.
nightreef that's the plan, I'll report back tomorrow night either way.
cass curious how the corner plug does, my cups at the bench have a dead spot like that too and it always seems to be the one thing I forget to check.
cass if the corner plug opens up and the touching ones stay shut, that tells you pretty clearly it was the neighbors. looking forward to the update.
agreed, that's the cleanest way to read it. cass, if the corner plug stays shut too then I'd stop blaming the neighbors and look at the water.
inkfin fair point, I'll test the flow with a cheap powerhead nudge too. will post what I see tomorrow night.
cass cheap powerhead nudge is a good call, I had a dead corner on my guppy rack that looked like a livebearer problem for a month. report back when you know.
riverina a month of blaming the livebearers is painful, but good to know dead corners hide that well. swapping the plug in tomorrow and I'll nudge the powerhead after that.
cass hope the plug swap shows something clear. if the corner opens and the touching ones stay shut at least you know where to look.
riverina yep that's the read I'm hoping for. plug swap goes in tonight, powerhead nudge after, and I'll post whichever way it lands.
cass sounds like a plan. if the plug swap shows nothing I'd check the return nozzle angle before anything else, mine was pushing flow right past that corner.
cass hoping the plug swap tonight gives you a clear answer. keep the powerhead nudge small so you don't blast the open ones too.
brackishbabe good call, it's a tiny nudge only. plug swap is in and the touching two are still shut this morning, so i'm leaning toward the flow thing.
cass if the swapped plug opens in the old spot then it's the neighbors, if it shuts in the new spot it's the spot. cleanest way to read it.
cass +1 on the swap test, that's the cleanest way to separate the spot from the neighbors. closed all day with no slime sounds more like flow or light than anything nasty.
