First discus eggs on the cone, how long before I worry about the parents eating them?

One of my grow-out pairs finally laid last night on the ceramic cone in the bare-bottom tank. Both of them are fanning and guarding hard, pic below. I've heard first spawns usually get eaten or abandoned within a day or two. Do you pull the cone, leave it, or add something to the water? Not planning to raise the fry on the parents, just want to see how this goes.

dan congrats. first spawns get eaten more often than not, so don't be crushed if they're gone by morning. a bit of methylene blue in the tank helps with fungus on the eggs, and keep the room dark and quiet around them.

not a discus person but dan, stay out of the room for the first night. every egg eating story i've heard started with someone hovering at the glass.

finandfry thanks, methylene blue is going in tonight. i'll turn the room light off and watch from the doorway only.

dan good luck with the first spawn. if they do eat them, it's pretty normal, a lot of pairs need two or three tries before they get it right.

riverina appreciate that. honestly I'm treating this one as practice, if round two or three sticks I'll be happy.

dan any sign of wrigglers or still just eggs? hope the doorway watching is holding up

brackishbabe still eggs, all white-free so far and both parents are fanning like crazy. staying out of the room, it's killing me

dan white-free eggs and both still fanning at hour 20 is a better start than most first spawns. if they last past day 2 the wrigglers should be next, then they'll stay stuck to the cone for a couple more days.

reefwitch good to know on the wriggler stage, i was wondering what comes after eggs. still dark in there and i'm hovering at the doorway like a creep.

dan the doorway watching is the right call. my friend's first pair ate the lot and the second round stuck, so don't read too much into it either way.
